Beach Tourism in India – The East Coast
India offers a lavish panorama, magnificent historical sites, sunny beaches, misty mountain hideaways, lively people, an ancient civilization, and vibrant festivals.
Spread out on the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean, India also offers an amazing array of beaches on its East Coast. If we move northwards on the East Coast from its extreme south, while traversing the beaches around Andaman and Nicobar Islands, there are the beaches of Tamilnadu, Pondicherry, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and finally West Bengal.
Andaman and Nicobar Island Beaches:
To discover uncontaminated natural grandeur, Andaman beaches are the last word. The clear crystal sea, feather-touch sand, captivating greenery, and a range of water sports, these beaches provide a perfect getaway to beach lovers. Most of the tourists to these islands frequent Corbyn’s Cove, shaded by coconut trees, in view of its divine beauty and convenience. The Chiriya Tapu beach and the beaches of Clinque Island also offer a heavenly bliss. Virgin loveliness of Havelock Island and Little Andaman is just overwhelming.
Radhanagar Beach, Andaman and Nicobar:
Radhanagar beach is one of the two prominent beaches on Havelock Island in the Andaman and Nicobar Group of Islands. This beach is frequented by wildlife enthusiasts looking for its hitherto unexplored anthropological treasures. The local forests abound with a large bio-diversity of flora and fauna. This beach offers an all-encompassing tranquility, which is comforting to the visitors. The solitude and tranquility is ideal for lotus-eating. Though the local climate is balmy all year round, but March and April are the most enchanting, with the local vegetation in full spring bloom.
Tamilnadu:
The famous blue beaches of Tamilnadu beckon tourists far and wide. More prominent of its beaches are Kanyakumari Beach, Marina beach, Rameshwaram beach, and Mahabalipuram beach. Marina Beach enjoys the distinction of being one of the longest beaches in the world. Apart from its beaches, an added attraction in this state is its rich bio-diversity, a pulsating lifestyle, and awe-inspiring temples.
Pondicherry:
During a first visit, Pondicherry does not present itself a part of India; it rather appears a slice of France located in India. This erstwhile French colony retains its tranquil old world charm with wide, spacious boulevards, a somnolent élan, and French Riviera style beaches. With the departure of French colonialists, some of its beaches still appear to be undeveloped. The resort hotels offer retreat in solitude by the side of the coast road. One major landmark in Pondicherry is Auroville, the retreat once established by Aurobindo, but which is now inhabited by an International experiment to actualize his ideas. It today conducts wide ranging experiments in holistic, sustainable living.
Pondicherry Beaches:
Pondicherry beaches are blessed with an easy going tranquility, serene ambience, gleaming sand, and an all-encompassing quietness. The Karaikal beach aptly represents these characteristics. It looks over the confluence of Arasalar River and the sea. The Pondicherry beaches offer a glorious view of the rising sun, which attracts a large number of early morning enthusiasts. The nearby boating club provides a wonderful opportunity to explore the Arasalar, as well.
Andhra Pradesh Beaches:
Andhra Pradesh offers many glamorous beaches on the Bay of Bengal coast. The undefiled, serene beaches are an idyllic excuse to enjoy your vacations. Bheemunipatnam and Manginapudi beaches offer one of the best sea shore locations in the state. Andhra Pradesh is also known for caves, pilgrimage centers, and monuments.
Orissa:
Described by Lonely Planet as a captivating state with diverse, vibrant living cultures. Orissa offers a number of beaches on India’s east-central coast, each with its own special twist. Some of Orissas beaches have religious significance, like the Konark Beach with its Sun Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Orissa is home to one of major shrines of Hinduism, viz. the Puri Jagannath Temple and the beach nearby continues to be crowded by people from international sects like the ISKCON, who adore Krishna. The Balighai Beach in this state is the location of the sea turtle research center, and a nesting ground for sea turtles.
Orissa Beaches:
Orissa offers a number of beaches known for their golden sand and sky blue water. These include beaches at Puri, Chandipur, Gopalpur beach, Talasari beach, and Balaramgadi beach. Puri and Chandipur beaches are best locations to enjoy your vacations with your family. One additional advantage in Orissa is a diversion to one of the many tribal destinations to explore tribal lifestyle, their music and dances and other incredible tribal handicrafts, besides Chilika Lake boating.
West Bengal Beaches:
The Shankapur and Digha beaches are famous in West Bengal with their exquisite lawns and fresh water swimming pools.
An additional advantage of Indian Beaches is their offer of a large number of water sports, like motor boat rides, paragliding, water skiing, parachuting and fishing, etc. As such, they offer a lifetime experience, whether you are interested in high octane adventure, or your partner looking for some tranquility; whether your children relish exotic seafood, or a hectic pony ride.
So, all in all tourism in India through beach has been one of the major acitivity for tourist through out the year.
